Oh wow, thank you for your lovely message!
'Paying attention to
and obsessing over the tiny little details’ should probably be this blog’s tagline to be honest! But you’re so right, the production team have created something incredible with Sherlock. I don’t think there’s once been a time when something has appeared out of place or ‘not right’ on the show and with their track record Series Three is guaranteed to be just as perfect. <3
Thank you, and that’s GREAT to hear!
Thank you so much for you utterly lovely message!
What a brilliant idea!
We’ll get onto that right away. In fact, making a fandom wear series sounds really fun. Does anyone have any suggestions for other things we could include?
Hi there :) Well, we’re still very much here and still answer questions but we’re not as active as we are during (and for a while after) new series of Sherlock, for obvious reasons. We already have a lot of the Series 3 clothing in our queue so get ready for us to come straight back once the new series airs! (We’re also planning a giveaway very shortly in celebration of the new Series 3 trailer!)
Unfortunately we’ve not had much luck with Sarah although we do have her work outfit here, including the lovely skirt. Sorry we can’t be of more help!
We have :) You can find our post on his grey deerstalker here.
We sure do, although unfortunately it’s not available to buy these days but does occasionally pop up on sites such as eBay and Style Forum. You can find our post on the shirt here. Hope that helps!
We do! :)
The navy tie is available again at the Alexander McQueen website here or you can grab one here from mrporter.com (You can also buy a very cheap and very good replica on eBay here, it’s wider than the McQueen but a lot of cosplayers who opt for the replica tie it backwards so the thicker end is hidden under the shirt.)
You could also make a very good replica of his tie bar by buying a plain tie bar (this is a good one) and adding your own rhinestone to it. Here's one that matches Mortiary's. But if you already have a good match then that's great :)
You could always carry the Bruce Partington plans with you as an extra touch. We’ve posted the actual USB stick here.
Other than that we can’t think of anything else you could do. You’ll make a great Moriarty and we hope you enjoy yourself!
We have indeed posted Moriarty’s tie, it was actually our first ever post (which makes finding it on this blog quite a task!) You can find it here. It’s by Alexander McQueen. Hope that helps!
Thank you for the lovely compliment. We’d be honoured if you translated our posts. As long as you include a link to our blog that’s absolutely fine with us. Please let us know the name of the site when you’re done and we’ll give it a shout out!
Goodness, that must have taken a while!
So glad you enjoyed it!
We do have some designs ready but due to the constraints of CafePress mug printing they won’t be exact (but they’re pretty darn close). We’re planning on posting some mock ups of them after we’ve made our 221b Con Costume Contest post asking for any suggestions on how we could improve them and if people like them.
If the response from that post is positive we’ll make four designs available at the store, two with the Martin and Benedict names on the labels and two with blank labels so you can write your own name.
Here’s a little sneak peek as proof that we’re actually working on them!
Hello, thank you very much for your kind message!
We hadn’t noticed there there is a difference between our post on the red robe and Sherlockology’s before now, but so there is! Our information on that particular robe came straight from the Derek Rose company when we inquired about them. We still have the email and here is a part of it:
“I […] am pleased to advise that the robe featured in Sherlock is the Westminster 2 Wine Robe which is available on our website.”
We of course wanted to double check as Sherlock’s red robe does look quite lighter (in fabric weight) compared to the image of the Westminster 2 on the Derek Rose website and were told that:
“The Woburn 8 Robe is made from pure silk and is a lightweight fine fabric, the Westminster 2 is made from the finest merino wool, and although it is still heavier than the Woburn it’s very lightweight.”
If you look at this screencap of Sherlock’s robe you’ll see that the fabric appears to be woolly rather than silky and it isn’t striped. The Woburn 8 (here) is striped. So I believe that ours is the information that is correct in this case. I hope that puts your mind at rest! (The Westminster 2 is slightly cheaper too, so if you were thinking of buying the robe that’s a bonus!) See all of Sherlock’s robes in our Derek Rose tag here.
Regarding Irene’s fur coat, Sarah Arthur (the costume designer) has confirmed that it was a vintage fur wrap from her personal collection. This means it would be almost impossible to track down now unfortunately, sorry we can’t be of more help on that one. If you submit a screencap of Irene’s purse we’ll get right onto hunting it down for you :) Our submission page is here.
Costumes are absolutely not limited to BBC Sherlock.
We thought that people might think the contest was limited so this is why we tried to include as many versions of Sherlock as we could on the poster. We’d love there to be a great variety and look forward to seeing your take on Ritchie Holmes! You can dress as any character (or inanimate object!) that you like and as long as it’s related to Sherlock Holmes in some way.
Our judges also have a wide range of knowledge regarding Sherlock Holmes/costume making so coming as something unrelated to BBC Sherlock will not hamper your chances of winning. Hope that helps! :)
