That’s right, Wear Sherlock will be attending the 221b Con in Atlanta, USA this April! If you’ve not heard about the Convention then check out their website 221bCon.com where you can pre-register and find out more about the events, panels, competitions, guests and performers! • The Wear Sherlock Panel: Myself and Heather (head of the Convention’s events and programming) will be discussing the sets, props and costumes featured in Sherlock and answering your questions!

All questions answered at the Wear Sherlock panel will be posted on our Tumblr/Twitter on the day and nearer the time we will be inviting our followers who can’t attend to tweet us their questions. Our favourites will be answered at the Convention!

We know how much the Sherlock fandom love to cosplay so we’re teaming up with the 221b Convention to create the biggest Sherlock Holmes costume contest ever! We’ll be posting more information soon including the contest’s poster design and prize list.

Sign up for the contest is required on the Saturday (it’s free). You can dress as whoever or whatever you like – as long as it’s related to Sherlock Holmes you’re in! The contest will take place in the Ballroom and will be hosted by Wear Sherlock’s founder Caz, who will introduce each participant and briefly talk about their costume. If scheduling allows each cosplayer will have a small time-slot to perform a “skit” so please prepare something short if you’d like to.

There will be three winners, 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place and the judging panel is still being decided. All prizes have been donated by some very generous sponsors (which we’ll reveal in our next update) but we’re always on the look out for more so if you’d like to donate something please send us a message.  

SHERLOCK COSPLAY “HARLEM SHAKE”

You might think it’s silly, you might not even know what it is, but at the end of the contest we’ll be filming a Sherlock cosplay ‘Harlem Shake’ video for charity and all Convention attendees are welcome to take part. Not sure what the Harlem Shake is? Click here to find out. The winner of the costume contest will be the one to start the dance and then all other participants will join in! To be part of the video you’ll need to donate a small sum (suggested donation is $1) and all proceeds will go to the Convention’s chosen charity. You’ll be dancing like a lunatic in Sherlock cosplay, for charity, now how fun does that sound!

Whilst Googling ourselves the other day (shh, we all do it) we found a rather lovely review of our blog. We were all smiles and happy tears until we read the reviewer’s comment that Wear Sherlock is more of a costuming blog and that we didn’t really post a lot of props - this couldn’t be further from the truth! It may take a while to sift through our many pages to find older props but they are there, over sixty of them in fact! So to celebrate the fact that we adore the props in Sherlock just as much as we do the costumes here’s a little compilation of our personal favourites from Sherlock Series 1 and 2! (Click the names in this list to be taken to our post about them).

• Irene’s Vertu phone S2E01
  How could Irene’s £17,000 phone not make the list? (A phone that Sherlock somehow found the funds to duplicate may we add!) It’s currently on show in Harrods if you’d like to go and see it for yourself.

• Sherlock’s framed Periodic Table print S2E01
  It has a childish and colourful charm that is just so not Sherlock. Displayed proudly framed on his bedroom wall we can only imagine it being something left over from his childhood that he just couldn’t throw away!

• 221b’s United Kingdom and Ireland Ali Miller teacup S2E01/03
  Perhaps the most coveted Sherlock prop of all. One part of a stylish tea set that oddly compliments 221b’s light up kettle. Random fact: Stephen Fry owns the set too!

• Moriarty’s penknife S2E03
  Not sure why Moriarty wanted to leave such an elegant penknife lodged into one of the flat’s apples but it certainly made an impression.
  
  
• Grimms’ Fairy Tales book S2E03
  One of the breadcrumbs left by The Fall’s good old fashioned villain for Sherlock to follow. Also, an extremely rare book indeed.

  Instead of placing that overused quote here (you know the one) we’re just going to say if any Sherlock fan is unfortunate enough to find themselves in the back of an ambulance use the opportunity to quote said quote - it will surely lighten the mood.
  
  
• Mycroft’s cigarette lighter S2E01
  Because even if Mycroft doesn’t smoke (or frequent cafes) he still needs an imported, rare, designer lighter because.. he’s Mycroft.
  
  
• Sherlock’s Judo diploma S2E01
  When we first posted Sherlock’s First Dan diploma it spurred a huge uproar as when translated it isn’t actually addressed to him but somebody else entirely. Perhaps it’s a memento.. 
  
  
• Irene and Sherlock’s riding crop S1E01/S2E01
  You read that right. The riding crop Sherlock owns in Series one (that he flogs that unfortunate corpse with) is exactly the same as Irene’s in Series two. We’re saying nothing.

Our designs are screen-accurate meaning that what you see on the show is what you’ll get on your mug but please note these are recreations and are 100% unofficial.

So, to clear up any confusion here is the story of those striped mugs that turn up pretty much everywhere in the Sherlock fandom. Back in July 2011 we were lucky enough to visit the set of Sherlock Series 2 whilst they were filming The Reichenbach Fall. Whilst on set a selection of photographs were taken and posted on the owner of Wear Sherlock’s (personal) blog and they were quickly spread around. But none as much as the grainy photographs taken gone midnight of two innocent striped mugs labelled with sticky tape so that Cumberbatch and Freeman didn’t forget which was theirs. Shame they couldn’t actually drink any of it, seeing as they were handcuffed together..

We’d happily recreate both of these silly mugs for our upcoming mug store if people would like to own one as to be honest we find it hard to say no to you guys. But just how will you explain to your friends/family that you have a mug with somebody else’s name on? We’ll leave that up to you ;)

Great news! Our first test batch of mugs (soon to be sold in our upcoming mug store) have arrived and they’re beautiful! Well, we think they are anyway. Not long now until the shop will be open for business! 

These two designs #RAMCmug and #PERIODICmug will always be available to purchase in the store but occasionally we’ll bring out limited edition designs such as the project H.O.U.N.D mug and some top secret ‘costume mugs’ that are currently under construction. You’ll be able to vote on which designs you like best and hopefully Series 3 of Sherlock will introduce new ones too!
